There’s more about Sedona that goes beyond the ordinary. With its red rock towers, majestic

buttes and flat-topped mesas carved in fiery crimson sandstone, it could enter a geography beauty

contest and win against most other beautiful places on the planet. Sedona is unquestionably one of the

most beautiful place in Arizona, one of the most scenic cities in the Southwest and probably

the most beautiful place in the world.

There’s more about Sedona than it's natural beauty. The homes in Sedona are wonderful.

Sedona was founded in the 19th century, the discovery of energy

‘vortexes’ here in the 1980s turned this once modest settlement into a bustling

New Age destination. Today the combination of mysticism and red-rock

majesty attracts throngs of tourists year-round. You’ll find all sorts of alternative

medicine practices in town, along with art galleries, gourmet restaurants and

top-end resorts, not to mention numerous businesses available

that can teach you about the area.

Be sure to visit Oak Creek Canyon.  The 30-mile stretch of Hwy 89A between

Sedona and Flagstaff rises up through dramatic Oak Creek Canyon. Be sure to

stop at Slide Rock State Park, where the cool waters of Oak Creek pushes

swimmers through a rock slide. The road levels off and glides through

ponderosa pine into fun and funky Flagstaff.

Almost 100 feature movies have been filmed here, and the greatest stars have

worked here. Sedona began 350 million years ago. Or maybe 1000 years ago,

when primitive hunter-gatherers evolved into the Native Americans we know as

Sinagua, who farmed and traded with faraway tribes. Using water from Oak

Creek, the first homesteaders irrigated small patches of ground to raise fruit

and vegetables. Some made wine, for which the Schuerman family became

well known. Every homestead had a collection of chickens, turkeys and

geese. Cattle provided beef as well as butter. But it was fruit growing

particularly apples and peaches -- which played the most significant part in

the early Sedona economy.

Moviemaking in Sedona began in 1923, with Zane Grey's Call of the Canyon. In

1945, John Wayne came to town for his first stint as producer; Angel and the

Badman costarred the beautiful Gail Russell.  Stars who worked here also include

James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Sterling Hayden, Joan Crawford, Glenn Ford,

Robert DeNiro, Robert Young, Hopalong Cassidy, Tyrone Power, Rock Hudson,

Donna Reed, and hundreds of others. Did you know there is a Sedona Location

Scout in Sedona? Want to film a movie, commercial, website production, print

catalog, locations services, location management, catering, cast trailer rental,

old prop trucks, or location permitting? Call Ron Brumley Sedona Location

Scout (970) 729-3474.
